Several moderation and privacy improvements have shipped recently, most of them driven directly by feedback from webmasters running busy, community-moderated chats. Here's what's new, and how to turn each one on.
Invisible mode for moderators
A moderator can now browse a room without appearing in the online list or the visitor count — useful for catching up on a conversation, or simply observing, without visitors behaving differently because they know a moderator is watching.
It's off by default. To enable it for a role, go to chatadmin → Roles and check the Invisible column for that role. Once enabled, an "Invisible mode" checkbox appears in that visitor's own profile panel — it's a live, per-session choice, not something forced on.
Banning or kicking someone now stops their camera too
Dialogoo's chat and its webcam/video streaming run as two separate systems under the hood. Banning or kicking a visitor always correctly ended their chat session — but if their camera was already broadcasting, the video stream itself could keep running independently for a short while after. That gap is closed: a ban or a kick now immediately stops the camera stream as well, not just the chat connection.
See who reacted to a message
Message reactions (👍 ❤️ 😂 and the rest) used to only show a count. Now you can see exactly who reacted: hover over a reaction on desktop, or tap it on mobile, and the list of names appears right there.
Safer private messages: reply-only mode
Unwanted private messages are one of the most common moderation headaches on any chat with strangers in it. There's now a simple control for it, live in the Private tab: "Refuse private messages, except ones I started."
Turn it on and the logic is fully automatic — no allowlist to manage, no requests to approve:
- Nobody can send you a first, unsolicited private message anymore.
- You can still start a conversation with anyone you like, and they can reply normally — you're always free to write first.
- Moderators can always reach you. This control is about stopping unwanted contact from other visitors, never about blocking moderation.
It's off by default, and entirely up to each visitor — nothing a webmaster needs to configure.
Why this matters
None of this changes how a well-behaved chat looks or feels. It's aimed squarely at the harder moderation moments: getting an unwanted repeat visitor off a stream the instant they're banned, giving moderators a way to watch without changing room behavior, and giving your own members a real say in who can message them first.
These are already live on every Dialogoo chat — no update needed on your side. For the full list of what's configurable per role, see the integration guide, or head straight to your own chatadmin panel.
